Instituted by Christ on the day of His Resurrection (cf. John 20:22–23), the Sacrament of Reconciliation is the celebration of God's loving mercy and forgiveness. Through confession, sincere repentance, and absolution, we are reconciled with God and His Church, restored to spiritual health, and strengthened to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a continual invitation to conversion. No sin is too great for God's mercy when we come to Him with a contrite heart. Through this sacrament, Christ heals the wounds caused by sin, renews us in His grace, and restores us to communion with Him and with His Church.

Preparation for First Reconciliation
At St. Teresa of Avila Parish, children ordinarily prepare to receive their First Reconciliation during their second-grade year as part of their preparation for First Holy Communion.
Students attending St. Joseph School receive a portion of their catechetical preparation through the school's religion program.
Students attending public or other private schools participate in the parish's Religious Education Program. Families from both programs come together for the final preparation and celebration of First Reconciliation as one parish community.
