A lector is one who proclaims the word of God at Mass. The lector assists at Mass by proclaiming the first and second readings and occasionally the Psalm. The lectors work in teams of two and share responsibility for reading the readings for that Mass. The team is also responsible for making announcements to the assembly. The lector’s role is not merely to read but to bring the word of God to life for the assembly.
All lectors are provided with a work book of all the Sunday and special readings for that liturgical year and training which includes use of the microphone, actions and posture at the ambo (lectern), how to enunciate and speak clearly and with vitality.
